New transmission

I managed to sell my 091 as I'm sure it would not have lasted long with the power I'm aiming at. And right at the same time this came up for sale in UK. It's a brand new custom build sequential Mendeola 2D with stronger gears than normal 2D and redesigned shift mechanism. Now I just need to build the car around it.

Had to try some random wheel just to know how it sits. This is about ride height and at least to me the fit is close to perfect.

I brought the body to own garage for final fitting before paint. I will also weld all the panel tabs inside. I just hope front wheel is in correct location as changing that is a big job. Looks OK so far.

I had to replace pedals as it was quite hard to fit throttle position sensor to the Jamar pedals. I got OBP pedas and of course they did not fit without modifications but now they are there. Now I just need to find a linear position sensor and make it fit. 

 

 

 

Paint in process

Mika sent me pictures and looks like he has started painting the body.

The body is soon ready for paint. There's still a little welding to do but looks like I will be able to take this to Mika right in the beginning of next year.

I did nothing with this one during summer. Then I decided it's time to start again but still, it's really slow. My next target is to get the body finished during this year.

Random shots

I went to see the car and took some random shots. Looks superb and I can only wonder where Mika get's his energy from. Next thing is some cutting and welding of rear fenders. The arch is raised approximately 60mm and fenders need to be heavily modified to fit.

The door is only for mock up, I have rust free original doors waiting.

I will use original fenders from '52 if at all possible. According to Mika he can fix the "little" issues easily.

More bodywork

Quarter panels are from Virtanen. The quality is susperior to any other makes but that's the reason they exist I suppose. If I need any other repair panels I will buy them from him.

Bodywork

Mika sent me few pictures of the things he has done. Looks great so far!

 

 

 

 

Car is now ready for bodywork. I still have to find somekind of wheels to get it rolling. Next stop will be with someone who is able to fabricate all mounts to mount the body to the chassis and do some rust work also. Body is not all rotten but there's still lots of welding to be done.

Tire is 27.4" tall and wheen arch has been raised approx. 60mm. I think there's still need to raise it a bit more.

Progress finally

Finally there has been some progress with the frame. The body is on the frame for mock up purposes and as always there are a lot of things that has to be done differently.

This is the main problem. At ride height the rear frame will be 150mm from the ground and the trailing are arms already pointing upwards. Relatively easy fix though, just needs new mounting tabs to be welded 100mm higher. Pushrod will also need to be relocated.

Under the hood everything is fine.

Four links also need new tabs.

Front tires need to be 22", otherwise there's no room for upward movement. I will also need to raise rear fenders a little, I did not want to do that but looks like there's no alternative if I want to keep this stance with bigger than 26" tire.

Summer is coming

I tried to sell my heads with no luck so I decided to assemble the engine again. I will try to sell it as a complete unit but as it most probably will not happen I'm forced to drive the car again this summer.

Heads were refreshed with new intake valves and they were also machined for a bit more compression. Small weld was required for the broken cooling fin which had been broken since new.

Rear hubs

At least the rear hubs are done. Not much I know but I hope to get the suspension parts soon so I can start welding.

Still no progress on the chassis but I got some new ideas while trying to see how everything fits. Wheel travel is about 40mm upwards and I figured shock needs to travel more to get better control so I decided to try cantilever suspension. With 1.5:1 rocker ratio I get 60mm of shock movement with less spring pressure and better adjustability.

We changed the rear suspension setup a little. Instead of a ladder bar there now are two link bars like in 4- link suspension. More adjustability and easier to build and not so much of a copy of certain imperialists' suspension.

Tube work continues...

I also took the original UB-52 to long term storage so I will not work with that.
