After an hour with flap sander everything fits like they should.

Interference issues

88mm crank and roller cam with quite big base circle didn't just drop right in.

New plans

It's time for winter overhaul again. It's a pity I did not get to see the full potential of the old engine due to small setbacks, but it's time to move on. New engine will be 88x101.6 and quite a lot of parts will change. Let's see what we can build out of these.

Time for good old out and in again

It didn't take long this time. KEP Stage 2 clutch just didn't hold, it started to slip already on 2nd gear. Strange, since it was exactly the same clutch I used last year and it did hold. There can not be so much more power, or can there? There was no point in burning the disc also so it was time to pull out the engine and upgrade the clutch to KEP Stage 3.

And while I was down there I also installed the incredible Marco Mansi special IRS bolts which allows rear camper adjustment.
Done. I hope this was the last time this year for this.
Oh yes, and my new launch control is working perfectly. I'm using two line locks, one for the front brakes and one for the clutch. I can release the clutch with a button on the steering wheel and at the same time release front brakes and RPM limit.

Trigger happy

This is the reason I drove 300km for nothing with the car on trailer. The RPM sensor was too close on the trigger wheel and ECU did not get stable rpm data. Luckily the fault codes are recorded in the ECU, but I did not know that until I got home from the dyno/ test session. Maybe next time I'll get the car tuned. Now it at least drives well.

Computer says...YES

I spent all day yesterday trying to get the ECU to communicate with all the sensors and the computer said NO quite many times. RPM data was missing the whole time but after I updated the software version everything started to work. Should have known. Today I adjusted the valves and the engine fired right up and sounded healthy right from the beginning. The cam is now broken in and I can start tuning.

Smoke is from the thermo tec, paint, dust, oil...and smells really bad.

Almost done

Well, not really, but engine is finally in the car. Got it cranked for oil pressure and also tested the fuel lines with 5bar pressure, no leaks. I have some problems with the new ECU and software but I hope to solve them soon. Exhaust fits better than I expected. It does not hang too low and ground clearance should not be an issue.


Ignition leads are missing but otherwise it is ready to be fired up.

Head job

A small update. At last I got the heads assembled with K800 springs since I didn't manage to get any softer springs. Also got the pistons back from notching, thanks Alho- Racing!

New wheels

I really needed a set of normal street tyres and wheels, MH's are not the best choice for street driving. So, I sourced a set of 16" BBS RS wheels and painted them BBS gold, what else? And after the refurbish I realized these are not the wheels for split window bug and sold them. They just didn't look right.

Cam

Cam was made by Hap racing. Looks quite different from Engle, etc.

Rockers

Finally I got the 5- bolt rocker shafts form Pekka and they are just perfect. Made form cromo and I'm sure they will handle spring pressures roller cams require.

Coils etc.

Coils found theis place on the firewall. I used 034 Motorsport coils with build- in igniters, again to keep it simple. Wiring is also done for all sensors, injectors and coils.

Exhaust again

Made some progress with the exhaust. All pipes are approx. 400mm long with 5mm tolerance. Should be close enough. I still need to get these tig- welded,


There's enough space for 2" collector and the pipes clear transmission mounts and rear apron.

Electrics

Finished the electrics inside the car.
Tatech T6 ECU and loom.
I used fused relays to keep it more simple.


AMP bulkhead connectors. It's so much faster to take off the engine, which I do a lot, when I only have a few connectors for all electrics.
